Kickbox alternative for SaaS signups (and when Kickbox is better)
Kickbox checks that a mailbox exists by talking to its mail server; Vetto does not. To clean a list before a send, use Kickbox. Vetto is a flat-priced signup gate: one-click typo fixes, throwaway and dead-domain blocks, and alias-farm detection on Pro.

Quick answer
Kickbox and Vetto answer different questions. Kickbox asks the recipient’s mail server whether an address exists, and returns deliverable, undeliverable, risky or unknown, plus a quality score from 0 to 1. Vetto does not do SMTP mailbox verification. It reads public DNS and its own lists to decide whether a signup looks like a typo, a throwaway, a dead domain or, on Pro, a repeat of someone who already signed up.
If you need to know a mailbox can receive mail, before a campaign or for a list you imported, Kickbox is the right tool and Vetto is no substitute. If your problem is fake, mistyped and repeat signups on a free tier, Vetto is built for that, at a flat price.
Different jobs: list verification vs signup gating
Kickbox sells list verification and a verification API for the point of capture, with integrations for HubSpot, Klaviyo, Mailchimp and other email platforms. Its API overview describes the form flow: on submit, your application sends the address to Kickbox and decides what to show. The verification call has a default timeout of 6,000 ms.
Vetto is a script tag on the form itself. It checks the field when the visitor leaves it, shows the message in place, and fails open after 800 ms. Its job is keeping junk signups out of your free tier, not deliverability.
Price at 1K, 10K and 20K checks a month
| Checks a month | Vetto | Kickbox (as of October 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Free: $0 (1 site) | $10 for a 1,000 pack |
| 10,000 | Pro: $12/mo, or $99/yr | $70 for a 10,000 pack |
| 20,000 | Pro: $12/mo (20,000 per site, up to 3 sites) | No 20,000 pack; 25,000 costs $150 |
Kickbox figures come from its pricing page on 10 October 2026: 100 verifications free, then credit packs from 500 for $5 to 1,000,000 for $2,999, with custom pricing above that. Unknown results are refunded as credits. Its API page lists different prices for some packs (10,000 for $80, for example), so confirm at checkout. The pages we checked do not say whether credits expire; see their pricing page.
This comparison flatters Vetto: a Kickbox credit buys a mailbox-level verification Vetto does not perform. Vetto’s plans, including the $69 Founding Lifetime, are in Vetto’s pricing section.
What each one checks
Kickbox facts come from its single verification docs and result definitions, read on 10 October 2026.
| Vetto | Kickbox | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A signup-form gate, installed with one script tag | Email verification and list cleaning: a verification API, list uploads and email-platform integrations |
| Pricing and free tier | Free: 1 site, 1,000 checks/mo. Pro: $12/mo or $99/yr (3 sites × 20,000 checks/mo). Founding Lifetime: $69 once (first 100, until 27 Nov 2026) | 100 free verifications, then pay-as-you-go packs from 500 for $5 to 1,000,000 for $2,999 (as of October 2026) |
| Checks performed | Syntax, typos, throwaways, dead domains, relays (tagged), honeypot. Pro: lookalikes with live MX, alias farms, datacenter/VPN/Tor, bursts, freemail, role, deny list | Deliverable, undeliverable, risky or unknown, with a reason; role, free, disposable and accept-all flags; Sendex quality score |
| Where it runs | Browser script plus Vetto’s edge API; Pro adds server-side /v1/check | Kickbox’s servers, called from your backend (libraries for Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby); EU-only instance available |
| Typo suggestions | Built in: “Did you mean jane@gmail.com? [Fix]” | A did_you_mean field; you write the message |
| Disposable coverage | 9,222 CC0 domains plus learned throwaway mail-server infrastructure | A disposable flag on every verification, plus a free open endpoint; list size not stated |
| Alias detection | Pro: Gmail dots, +tags and googlemail.com collapse to one inbox; repeats flagged | Not described in its API docs |
| SMTP mailbox verification | No. Public DNS only | Yes. This is its core feature |
| Server-side enforcement | Pro: signed vetto_token verified offline or with /v1/verify, or /v1/check with your secret key | Yes, by design: your server calls the API and decides |
| Setup | One script tag; no code | API key plus a call in your signup handler and your own messages; sandbox mode for testing |
Using both
They stack well. Put Vetto on the form to stop throwaways, dead domains and alias farms before an account exists. Run Kickbox on addresses you are about to email in bulk, such as an imported list; its batch API takes up to 1 million addresses per request.
Vetto’s email list audit is a quick first pass over a user export (only domain names leave your browser), but it cannot tell you whether a mailbox exists. That part is Kickbox’s job.
Kickbox’s free disposable endpoint
If all you want is a throwaway check, Kickbox documents a free, open endpoint that needs no API key. We called it on 10 October 2026 and it answered as documented:
curl https://open.kickbox.com/v1/disposable/mailinator.com
# {"disposable":true}It is a fine building block for a do-it-yourself check; you still handle the form message, the server side, typos, dead domains and aliases. Our guide to blocking disposable emails on any signup form shows that route next to the one-tag route, and the free disposable email checker shows what Vetto’s check returns for one address.
When Kickbox is the better choice
- You need to know the mailbox exists. Kickbox verifies over SMTP; Vetto never does.
- You clean lists before you send. List uploads, a batch API and native integrations with email platforms.
- You want a quality score to segment marketing sends, or accept-all detection for catch-all domains.
- You prefer paying per verification over a monthly plan, with unknown results refunded.
- Your buyers ask about compliance. Kickbox states it is GDPR-compliant and SOC 2 certified, with verification in the US and the EU.
- You have high volume. Vetto Pro tops out at 20,000 checks per site per month across 3 sites.

Frequently asked questions
Does Vetto verify that a mailbox exists?
No. Vetto reads public DNS and its own lists, and never opens an SMTP connection to a mail server. A domain that accepts mail does not prove that a given mailbox on it exists. For mailbox-level verification, Kickbox is the right tool.
Is Kickbox’s disposable check really free?
Kickbox documents GET https://open.kickbox.com/v1/disposable/{email or domain} as a free, open endpoint. It returns only {"disposable": true} or false, with no typo, MX or mailbox information. Paid verifications also include a disposable flag.
How much does Kickbox cost for a small SaaS?
As of October 2026, Kickbox’s pricing page lists 100 free verifications, then pay-as-you-go packs such as 1,000 for $10, 10,000 for $70 and 25,000 for $150, with unknown results refunded. Its API page shows different prices for some packs, so check at checkout.
Can Kickbox fix typos like gmial.com?
Its verification API returns a did_you_mean field (for example gamil.com becomes gmail.com), and you write the message your form shows. Vetto shows “Did you mean…? [Fix]” for you, and one click swaps the address.
What counts as a Vetto check?
A check counts when the form is submitted; the check when a visitor leaves the field does not. Free includes 1,000 a month; Pro, 20,000 per site per month on up to 3 sites.
